2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Developer to Boost Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Mixed Response

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a distinct game identity.

The president noted that the developers is now reimagining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

This announcement echoes a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the complete content from Ismailer's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and innovative developers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that relationship to continue.”

With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the requirement for a sharper brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the criticism to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our audience.

The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Director of 31st Union. Following several months of discussions, Ben officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s management and experience in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years creating and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in greeting Ben next week. We are all looking forward to keep seeing the evolution of the game in the weeks to ahead.

The President

Experience of the New Head

The appointee currently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He earlier worked at major gaming companies in multiple development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Information and Concept

Project Ethos was announced in last year alongside a early access event. Then, 31st Union presented the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary explains. "Challenge the rivals with new abilities, risks, and obstacles that evolve every session. Do you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or aim high, gamble everything, and hope your squad can earn top ranking? The option is up to you."

Project Ethos lacks an confirmed debut schedule or platforms, but fans can look forward to more updates as creation continues.
