The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was sentenced of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and handed more than 27 years in incarceration, but he continued under house arrest pending court reviews.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after recent developments emerged.

This included seeking to disable his tracking device and a call for a supporters' gathering that could "allow for a possible escape.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a document approving the arrest, the magistrate said information from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's "intention to break the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the protest called by his son.

His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his followers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday evening.

His son wrote on social media on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your country, or watch it all from your phone there on your couch? I call on you to struggle with us."

He said the vigil would be so backers could seek divine intervention for his physical condition and for the restoration of democratic rule in our country."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of Justice Moraes's determination was the chance of his transfer to diplomatic missions near the home, considering that the inquiries revealed a record of arranging to ask for protection through a diplomatic representation", a announcement said.

The judicial paperwork highlights that the United States embassy in the federal district, the capital city, is located around approximately 13 kilometers from the former president's residence.

International Reactions

His judicial problems have generated frustration from fellow conservative nationalist US President Donald Trump, leading him to implement a 50% tariff on Brazilian product imports.

Bolsonaro is being kept in a national police facility in the capital and will have a custody hearing on the following day.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on last Friday that the his legal team asked the High Court to permit him to complete his entire prison term under home confinement, with electronic monitoring.

They also asked that the former president be allowed to depart his residence for healthcare, saying he needed frequent medical attention for respiratory ailments and other ailments.

Background on Conviction

Bolsonaro was determined responsible of heading a scheme aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the presidential race to his ideological adversary, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Supreme Court justices said that he was aware of a scheme which involved plans to assassinate the current president and his running partner, Alckmin, and to detain and kill the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been overseeing Bolsonaro's trial.

The conspiracy was stopped because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the military leaders. The current president was took office without problem on the first day of 2023.

But a week later, on 8 January, many his backers attacked and damaged public facilities in the capital, Brazil's capital.

The law enforcement intervened and around approximately 1,500 persons were detained.

The judges found that the rioters had been provoked by Bolsonaro whose plan, they said, was for the country's army to intervene, bring back stability and reinstate his authority.

At the period, his attorneys called the 27 years and three months sentence extremely harsh.

He was also banned from running for public office until twenty-sixty - eight years later after the end of his sentence.

The one-time head of state called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was intended to stop him participating in the next presidential race.
