'Sweet game'
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.
The defendant played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his stepson had concerns about the situation, justifiably.
"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor explained items including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his concerns.
She said the man proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"The police had not gone out by that stage," she added.
The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement once more.
She stated the man then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
